Thinking small
This is a great article about a couple who left the city to build their own place in the country and simplify their life. They went from earning $42k a year to $6,200 and are much happier and healthier. Its really a good read.
While I know I'm not about to go do something as drastic as that, I have to admit, there is definitely something very appealing about what they have done. I just can't seem to put my finger on it, but it is very appealing. So much of what I do is opposite what they have done, yet I'm trying to get to where they are going... Thinking Small

There are certain small things that can be changed, but sometimes you have to take a big leap: Jump out of your old life and hope you have a soft landing on the other side. I'd love to do that, I'm ready at any minute. I'll give up cinemas (we mostly watch activist-documentaries anyway), restaurants, etc. I'd love to get rid of the TV, except for a few sat channels like Canal+ (good movies, not just Hollywood trash) and Planete (documentaries). And the exercise of doing everything yourself. It's like a dream come true.
The Wife and I probably wouldn't take too long to pack and leave the city if we knew we'd have a job there. Unfortunately, the area we're looking for land in has 40% unemployment, but we're not giving up. Thanks for the link Doax |
