Not sure. Would love to do some sort of DIY geothermal setup someday. Would like to utilize my potable water well in this, although whether or not I can may be limited by local codes and the laws of physics. I have done a little reading on the geothermal thread here. Very interesting. I like the DIY well drilling rig ideas, however, New England geology may stand in the way of doing this. We grow lots of rocks in these parts.

The other idea I had was using my indirect water heater as a solar heater during the warmer parts of the year. I started a thread about it in the home section of ecomodder. That is where I was informed of this place.

I have another idea or two. One is trying to figure out a way to use refrigerator waste heat to help heat water as well, rather than have it heat my kitchen which is already too warm.

Some major rocks have grown in my backyard (or maybe came here via glaciers), that kinda ruled out geothermal.

We all know the advice about what to do with lemons, but with excessive rocks.?.
Built rock walls with em?

My advice is to give equal study/consideration to Air Source Heat Pumps, (ASHP) since they
are the next best thing to a GSHP. Especially if they have inverter driven DC compressor motors.
Variable speed motors make a big difference. (Not seen in GSHP systems).
