How about using galvanized steel pipe?

Copper obviously has its advantages. Pex seems to me like it would suffer from lower conductivity and the risk of damage with high temps in summer, etc.

They/we knew how they worked, but the two leads coming out of the cell was the killer... plus, the back side doesn't look as conductive as it is.
One tab / lead on the front wouldn't have played as...

AHHHH! the front side of the cell is connected...
AHHHH! the front side of the cell is connected to the two tabs. The back side is all conductive. To put the cells in series, lay the next cell on top of the previous cell's tabs.
