Go to Wal-Mart or AutoZone and check out the new led driving and fog lights. These things are super bright. I think they packed a bunch of 3W stars in a tiny space. Don't know if the color temperature would be good for a bathroom, though. They are on the cool side, 6000K or higher.

Those cob lamps you cited are nowhere near the lumen output your halogen fixtures. The little smd led modules aren't bad, but you need a lot of them for the lumens to really add up. PIAA, hella, and the other big dogs have fixtures out that do the same job as those halogens, but five of them would cost you a cool grand!

I just use them in work lights that see occasional use and one motion sensing light.
I switched the tubes out for the lowest wattage available in that size.
You don't have to wait long to switch tubes.
When you buy a light the OEM likes to install the highest wattage tubes and it seems like the end crumbles from the excess heat.
Also if you have one of the 500 watt halogen lights near you and its not 10'F out it will cook you.

When you find a suitable replacement for that original 150W quartz tube, let me know. I've got one at the top of my stairs. I've considered gutting the fixture, swapping in a pair of CREE 60W bulbs and calling it done. (another Franken-lamp refit). At 26.8°N, I need no supplemental heat.

Maybe I should move it to the property at 46°N, and put it in the bathroom for a heat lamp...

Yeah i am also using this at my home and it is just working fine.

Its kind of nice to have a few of these near by when its cold out side while working on out side projects.
