In the last 9 hours,(since midnight) we have burned up 10.1 kWh of fine NStar power..
It has been a bit chilly outside, so the Sanyos were left at 20c/68f overnight.
We had snow flakes yesterday.. Winter heating season is here! :(

The MS did well last night even a 32 they are putting out good heat. It is going to take some time to see where solar production meets up with the new MS usage. We are ahead -550 kwh right now so that should help run them.
I will have to start watching my natural gas usage now. I hope to reduce that a lot this winter. I downloaded the last 18 months gas usage yesterday.

My new tankless hot water heater does not have a pilot and has energy factor 0.95. But it will be a few weeks before I will get time to install it. The old one is about .80 energy factor with a pilot. The new one will have some savings but I doubt it will be a very big savings.

I know we won’t be able to completely netzero but this all should put us closer.


Now that I have the units installed I wanted again to thank everyone here that posted about their mini split installs. I wanted to thank the people that posted and helped me out. without the kind helpful people here I would never been able to install these units myself.

I too , would not have been brave enough to try a MS install w/o help from many internet sources . This forum being a big part of that .

And , from the dollars and cents aspect , if I had to hire the install , the project would have been a no go .

It's great that more EcoDIYers are doing MS installs. You guys doing
successful installs, one after another, is going to encourage more people
to follow in your footsteps..

It's such a great energy-saving technology, more people should be using it.
In the USA, paying for the installer's labor cost is greater than the equipment cost (in many cases).
That high labor cost is a barrier for many people. That makes posting your
experiences installing MS systems very important, to a lot of people.

When site visitors drop in and read about a few successful MS installs,
and see the resulting low energy bills.. :D
It makes them start saying, 'Humm, maybe I could do this too'!

I wonder if we should start posting YouTube M/S install videos, with a link back to your install page.?.
Maybe just a short video of the system in operation,
with some BTHh/power use info and some still pics from your install.?.
Might be a good winter project..

We have not run our central gas heat since last Thursday.
The heat runtime for Sunday 11/19 was 2 hours 35 min the next day MS was installed run time was 38 min next day it was 19 min.
This is great for Nov. My one oldest boys room is south facing with two big windows we have been having him open his blinds during the day and it heats the room. My other boy’s room we have been opening the door to get some MS heat.

I have my new ECM blower motor I hope to install it this weekend and look at sealing duct work some more.

I did not have to use my oil boiler at all last winter. Feb was the worst month.
Cost me $149.00. That included water heater, dryer and cooking.

I do not like not having the right equipment.

This is what I should have had for the MS install. I will have it for next time.

My new vacuum hoses came in I also bought a Yellow Jacket 93844 ¼ ball valve.
I was able to easily pull 55 microns I could have gone lower. Finally hose and ball valve that can handle a very deep vacuum.
