I've done some analysis and it can be just as efficient to add thicker insulation to get the same results as a ventilated double wall. I recommend doing the calculations for a specific situation. And of course one should always consider trees for shade and also minimizing east/west wall size (north/south walls are easier to shade with overhangs).

What about a temporary setup? Something you'd bolt to your wall in summer only? You could take it down in winter. The price could be very minimal.
