DIY white roof painting guide
White Roof Project Whiteroofproject.org has a great guide on their site for those who need some help with the A/C. It goes over the benefits of painting your roof white, as well as going through how do calculate how much paint you'll use, and how to actually do it too. They even claim an up to 40% reduction in electricity costs. I'd highly consider this if I weren't in such a cold environment.

I'd say it has a similar effect. However, some metal roofing has special reflective paint which can further reduce the solar heat gain on the roof.

Those claims of significant electricity savings are for uninsulated ceilings and leaky ductwork in the attic. With a well insulated ceiling, the air conditioning savings will be too small to measure.
Reduced attic temperature, however, is a benefit for anything located there. And anybody that has a need to go up there on a hot day. |
