Big aircompressor for downhole air hammer
anyone hacked an old car engine into a big air compressor to use for downhole air hammer drilling? Say 150 CFM, 150 psi.
Seems one could regear the cam to 1:1, then biggest problem would be reconfiguring the 'exhaust' to take 150 psi? have a few old car engines sitting around... |

Why bother with the cam at all? Pull the cam, cam chain, and valves out and weld on threaded bungs for checkvalves on each cylinder. Then, just backdrive the engine with another one. Or, if you were really creative, do it to just 2 cylinders of a V-8, and use the remaining 6 cylinders to drive the other two. I think a BIG flywheel would help with vibrations.

Are you saying check valves / out puts in the spark plug holes ? Might even get creative and make a 2 stage compressor out of it ? God bless Wyr |
