Default Green Roofs = Cost-Effective Means Of Preventing Sewer System Overflows

This is a pretty cool article that weighs in on a positive side of green roofs I've never thought about. I wonder what kind of monetary savings that would translate into?

If New York City’s 1 billion square feet of roofs were transformed into green roofs, it would be possible to keep more than 10 billion gallons of water a year out of the city sewer system, according to the study led by Stuart Gaffin, research scientist at Columbia’s Center for Climate Systems Research.

New York gets a lot of rain , 10 feet apparently. With that much rain they should have crop farms on the roofs (some do). Have 1 roof all lettuce 1 year , the next year do a root vegetable, crop rotation on the roofs, sustainable cropping.

Or maybe they could do aquaculture
