I know a few people that the insurance told to remove wood burners in shops/garage within 30 days or get cancelled. reason for supsened is if there is a gas spill/ leak gas vapor stay along the floor and boom boom

i have may 3 plus attached stalled garage insulated to r50 ceilings and r21 walls. it stays about 40 degrees in the winter and only dropped below freezing once when we had -20 below for several days about 7 years ago.

i had a convection propane i turn on when i want to work out there and it gets to 55 degrees pretty fast

Good idea Gary. Or you could go even cheaper (and even passive) with solar hot air panels...

Good idea, but Kip has a large abundance of wood. Would the solar hot water panels generate enough hot water for the evening/night heating needs? Would you use a large storage tank to store hot water?

I grew up with a wood stove in the shop. The stoves were always elevated on a platform. I remember it was at least 18" off the floor. But regardless, your insurance rules dictate no open flames.

How about a outdoor wood stove, make a boiler with a pump for the supply and return line. Hook up to a radiator inside with a fan and away you go.

Sounds like a good application for an outdoor boiler. Pump hotwater indoors to an HX..
Maybe a DIY version of one of these.. Outdoor Wood Furnace | Affordable Home and Hot Water Heating | WoodMaster

Of course, sooner or later the EPA will fine you $2,000,000 a day..
I hear they carry guns now. And SWAT teams.?.

Maybe Solar hot-water would be safer..

Wow.......

All I wanted was a little heat in the shop, that's all.
Too many choices, easier to just hang a natural gas heater from the rafters.
May nit be cost effective, but I will have heat when I want it.
Thanks guys....
Have a great day

Oh yes.
We get snow a few times a year.
Nothing heavy. Usually a cold wet winter.
