Default Weather Proofing Project ROI

For all of you ROI enthusiasts, I found the receipts, totaled the costs and ran a few numbers

Weather Proofing Project - Return on Investment
$166.48 = total project materials cost
333.74 Therms = Oct '09 - April '10 natural gas usage
14.5% = 48.39 therms
$1.0625/therm = average cost per therm for the past 4 years
$51.41 estimated annual savings
3.24 year estimated payback

Notes:
  • I had all of tools and a few of the cheaper materials needed for the projects.
  • I've used last winter to estimate natural gas usage
  • I've averaged the last 4 years cost for natural gas (currently the rate is lower).
  • I didn't include the cost of my own labor

But, even with higher or lower natural gas prices and warmer or colder winters I should hit break-even in less than 4 years.

Tim
