I've got a $30 basic model under the tree..
Amazon.com: Ambient Weather WS-1171 Wireless Advanced Weather Station with Temperature, Dew Point, Barometer and Humidity with Calibration: Patio, Lawn & Garden
But, it's the WS-1170 w/o humid-calabration. ;(

This the fancy model, with the best reviews..
Amazon.com: Ambient Weather WS-1090 Wireless Home Weather Station w/ Data Logging & Atomic Time: Home & Garden

I don't need all that data logging junk.. Just the basic info..

I guess the product reviews will come after the 25th...

Have you seen the Solar version of the 1090?
WS-1090-SOLAR WIRELESS HOME WEATHER STATION w/ SOLAR POWERED SENSORS ATOMIC TIME | eBay
Don't need any batteries for the outdoor unit?

One nice thing I heard about the WS-1170 (& 1171) unit,
is the Time receiver is out there inside the outdoor module..
Meaning it's going to clear of a lot of computer & other RF noise inside the house..
Maybe more accurate time setting!!

That one looks pretty sweet too.. I'd like to have one that measures wind speed and direction... Also I got my first electric bill... In 12 days I used 178kwh that includes a few days of continues running of the blower fan on my furnace (had a few issues with furnace) I don't think thats to bad at all

That's not bad.. Less than 15 kWh per day ave. That's about what our Sanyos are using these days.

I've done some reading about measuring airspeed. And I've seen some videos
on YouTube about how critical it is to place the anemometer in the right location.
Anything that can cause air turbulence can seriously affect the instrument.

It's got to be mounted high up in clean air, and not downwind from trees, houses, hills, ham radio antennas, houses & etc..

I once installed an old anemometer, mounted on a 2 foot shaft, at different locations
around the deck railing and other places in the backyard. Location makes a big difference.
For wind info (before going for a hike or bike ride), I found the most accurate info comes from the local airport.

Since I'm a lazy person, if I had some good land, I would install PV
and never mess with with wind at all. Too many moving parts
and way to many things to wear out.
The failure and repair rates on those things is too high for me.
Plus, a really high gusting wind can rip them up PDQ.

The best looking spot (from a Google Earth viewpoint) is about 150' SW of the house.
The ground there is about 22 feet lower than the blue area.
But, it seems like it might be the best area,
since (it looks like) there's not much else that's real close in.

There may be some blockage, you just need to find out if it's going to be too much blockage.
Then there is the also the possibility of clearing some of that blockage by using a high mounted array..

If the array was 10 or 15 feet off the ground, it might get full sun for a longer period of time..

I don't think there are very many 'idea' solar mount locations,
there will always be something that's going to cast a shadow at some point.

I think my backyard mounts get about 3 hours of good sun this time of year..
