Default Thinking small

This is a great article about a couple who left the city to build their own place in the country and simplify their life. They went from earning $42k a year to $6,200 and are much happier and healthier. Its really a good read.

While I know I'm not about to go do something as drastic as that, I have to admit, there is definitely something very appealing about what they have done. I just can't seem to put my finger on it, but it is very appealing. So much of what I do is opposite what they have done, yet I'm trying to get to where they are going...

There are certain small things that can be changed, but sometimes you have to take a big leap: Jump out of your old life and hope you have a soft landing on the other side. I'd love to do that, I'm ready at any minute. I'll give up cinemas (we mostly watch activist-documentaries anyway), restaurants, etc. I'd love to get rid of the TV, except for a few sat channels like Canal+ (good movies, not just Hollywood trash) and Planete (documentaries). And the exercise of doing everything yourself. It's like a dream come true.
The Wife and I probably wouldn't take too long to pack and leave the city if we knew we'd have a job there. Unfortunately, the area we're looking for land in has 40% unemployment, but we're not giving up.

Thanks for the link Doax
