Thought I'd take the opportunity to chime in. I am a fan of the Hardiplank Siding and used it on my garage / workshop project. It feels like a durable product, holds paint pretty well and was reasonably easy to install. mrd suggested a product called Solosiders that I wound up buying and using.

If you start with post # 133, you can see how it went for me, warts and all. I REALLY like the Solosiders. Makes hanging the siding manageable with no prior knowledge of how to do it, and making it look right at the same time.

For cutting the Hardiplank, I turned my circular saw blade around and cut it with the blade running backwards. I know this sounds stupid, but that cement based board is not like any other product I've worked with and this worked well for me.
