New favorite toy.

One is not like all the others.


I put the amp clamp on it. It only had 10 amps, powering 2 window AC units. 2 bedrooms on one circuit. That's 1960s wiring for you. The breaker box is a modern QO 200amp load center I installed.

Here is a before and after picture of a wall light with a 40 watt bulb, then replaced with a 7 watt, 60 watt equivalent LED.
Both pictures the light had been left on all morning.

I think I found the major source of your heat loss.

It is this strangely shaped object in the photo below:

If this is an appliance, it certainly is a strange looking appliance. It would be a good idea to see if there are any other models of this appliance that are "Energy Star" rated.

If you look at any of your other images, none of them come even close to this one in terms of wasted heat.

In fact, along the bottom edge of the photo you can see what a huge amoint is lost from the appliance plug-in cord alone.

All in all, I can't imagine any way to utilize an appliance as wasteful as this one is.

I took 2 of those heaters camping in February. We were forecast for a light freeze in the morning. The smaller heater got cold enough it crawled inside my mummy bag. The bigger one was fine on top of my daughters bag. We were toasty warm, even had to unzip some. My friends in the neighboring tent told me they were so cold they couldn't sleep. Good little heaters but a lot of upkeep!

My dog was real hot that day I just let him in.
The dogs keep crack heads, thieves and other liars out of my back yard.

Here is my echo 440 saw a few minutes after cutting up some standing dead trees. Cutting kiln dried hard wood logs really heats up the bar and chain.

The oiler is turned up on the max setting and I grease the bearing on the end of the bar.
I was mostly doing cold cuts where you cut with the top of the bar, that uses all for cooling and lubing bar and chain. As opposed to a normal cut on the bottom of the bar where some of the oil flings off when the chain makes that turn round the end of the bar.

LOL! I too, had one of these flea-bitten high heat loss device in the house. Good to have it with me while camping (keeping the tent+ sleeping bag warm, but fleas kept me awake anyways)....mine tend to be somewhat high maintenance and low thermal efficiency (still considered high heat loss).

If only I can find a hypoallergenic type with lower maintenance cost (less medical costs overall) and energystar 2.0 certified (I believe standby power consumption shouldn't exceed 0.4~0.6watts/hr), that would be ideal...but then again: that rather "cold-blooded" heater may not serve me all that well during camping trips....need longer time to warm up the sleeping bag...

Decisions, decisions, oh well, too late to get one nowadays...I've made up my mind to severe the ties with these high heatloss device altogether, but to rely on artificial forms of heating the house....

Pretty sure it would easily fit your "low power" needs but the biggest problem (apart from trying to get one) is that I don't think it supports WPA2, meaning your network would be less secure.

Maybe it's time to develop an open hardware version. With a big focus on DIY serviceability, which is much to be said when most devices of that type are substantially less DIY service friendly than the latest iPhone...
