Thanks for the link Neil. I really enjoy going over these type posts and trying to learn something new. I have a nicely sized {for my wife and I} grid tied array, but have been threatening to build an off-grid setup to do our refrigerator and storm cellar lighting.

Yes, I use continuous solar generated power for last 3 years.

This is NO BULL $%&^! (Road apples and compost)

Maybe not so realistic for some, I'm grid tie. Excess generated day light solar kwH's used at night. I'm using the Grid as my batteries, it's working for me. Now for a few years I've had zero electriic bills in totally electric home in Arizona.
.
Loads are 2200 sq. ft home, 5 ton heat pump.

Full Man Cave.

Current project, here.

Hey Caveman, if the grid fails, can you still use your array??

My weather is so over-cast these days, I'm not getting much energy to charge up my DHW battery..

Now, there is more snow in the forecast!

I'm never going to learn to like snow.. It's just not gonna happen..

Xringer,

You know the answer to that.

Below is a $15,000 solution. A lot of options are in the drawing below. SMA does make Sunny Island inverters that meet that requirement. If your Solar is tied to your power panel, you may have the same problem. None of us live in a perfect world. See This... I do have a 10,000 watt electric start generator, if needed. I run this device on it BatteryMINDer 24/7.

.

I'm running 18,000 kwh's a year, with 2-5k SMA inverters. See monitoring here.

Xringer, I've had it rough. Was born in Florida 1944, to much rain. Arizona with 10 percent hummity and 100 degrees, it's actually feels cool with a little breeze, No Bull.

After Viet Nam back to Arizona, loving it sence 1953.

Everyone loves hot dogs,
