Default Emergency power

This would be great in a emergency, camping or even a remote off grid cabin.

You can build it yourself or buy it already made.

Check it out.

("free energy" as in solar)

This is EXACTLY what I've been hoping to find! And it's open source, even.

Is the Joule Ringer a way to just use DC? I'm confused that he just used an AC bulb on it...

Research "Joule Thief " aka Joule Ringer.

It can run LED bulbs, CFL bulbs and some low voltage incandescent bulbs.

Open source is the only way to go...

The solar panel with battery is now being built and sold by several people around the country:

SOLN1 V3 Units Now for Sale – Smart All-in-One Portable Solar Solution | Laser Hacker Alternative Energy

SOLN1 | SOLN1 - Portable AC Solar Power Unit

This is a really cool thing, I think. They are not cheap at $400 (or $499 from the builder in Tennessee) but they would be worth it.

SolNbox Personal Solar Emergency Generators

The Model 300 listed here: SolNbox Products would probably work with your own panels.

Here's an excellent video on the Joule Ringer:

Super Joule Ringer 3.0 | Laser Hacker Alternative Energy

It produces an AC power from a DC source with very high efficiency.

I wonder if it could be used as an AC motor controller?
