Rich, you don't look that bad on a bike, really. I mean, at least your thighs don't hit your belly when you pedal. I don't know if the same would hold on a race bike, though...

That's what is known as a 'Comfort' or Retiree bike. Old folks with bad backs
don't even get on back-breaker racing bikes..

The tires of the Comfort bike are a cross between fat, noisy dirt-bike tires and skinny little 'blow-out on pothole' racing tires.. They are the best of both worlds..

I think my next bike might need electrical assist.. I'll be 65 next month..

If you want to make your bike generator as efficient as possible I think using a hub motor would be the way to go, 3 phase AC hub motors are more and more common and would do away with extra belts or chains, you would just have a single chain and not even need the rest of the rear wheel.
But it all boils down to the amount of electricity that you can produce with your body, you would be better off finding ways to use your bike more for transportation so you can drive less.

Hi, we are 3 students at palisades charter high school in Los Angeles California...in our elective class called E.A.S.T., we work on projects that benefit the community and environment. so we saw your generator model and we made our own version (see pictures attached). We ran into two problems along the way:
1. the bike couldn't pedal because the kickstand was in the way...we were wondering how your bike worked if it had a kickstand at all
2. how to put on the generator (some instructions from your model would really help)...we used the alternator/generator model: MY1016 24 Volt 250 Watt Motor with 5M Belt Sprocket

please respond as soon as possible
and feel free to give us any new projects that you have

No kickstand on my bike.

I drove the motor directly via friction off the side of the tire.

Whether that will work for you or not will depend on what speed the motor needs to turn to generate the needed voltage.

You can see photos here showing how I mounted my motor. It was easier for me because the motor had a large flange on it, making it easy to mount to wood. Yours might need a different approach.

the only thing we have a problem with is still the kickstand, as we figured out how to put the generator on and everything else...if you OR ANYONE ELSE has any ideas on how to fix our problem please let us know A.S.A.P.

we wish to keep the kickstand as this is also our teacher's bike and her requested that we not harm his bike as well as ....MAKE THIS UNIVERSAL FOR ALL BIKES
