Default Hello all from Alaska (well, Texas for now).

My wife, son and I are renters. We move every 2-3 years because of occupation. But, we're always looking at saving a buck! Currently, we're in a 2 bedroom apartment and have a pretty decent electricity bill. Last month's was 578kwhs. I've since made some improvements that I think will help, including surge protectors/power strips, only using one light bulb instead of multiple ones per room, only using a/c when absolutely necessary, filling the empty fridge space, and using lower fan settings.

Can't wait to learn more!

Welcome to the site!

Doing things as a renter is a little more difficult, but definitely not impossible. Air sealing is very important. Using removable caulks and window film, and things like that can really help and are only temporary.

Well you're doing very well on the Kw usage - just think...when you move to AK again you probably won't need the A/C - chop off another 250kw lol. I was 'stationed' in AK in '78 to '80 and if it weren't for being property of the US ARMY-- I may have stayed there - instead I was sent to Germany - which wasn't all that bad either - 'cept for the property of US ARMY part Check out my posts to utilizethe heat produced from compressors and/or Wood Stoves to heat your water in the future. good luck to you all ....stay ahead of the curve
