NHM,

Yes, I have looked but all require batteries of some sort. I even got on e-bay and looked at the wind controllers that have built in 20 kW resistive dump loads (~$150-200).

I like the idea that was suggested a few posts back to simply manually turn off the PV system and use the generator during power outages. The big generator is 15 kW that simply attaches to my 80 HP diesel tractor power take off (PTO). This approach means that all electric could be turned on. All I really must have is power for the livestock water pump, freezers/fridge and a few appliances. Overkill, I know, but I used it for my elderly Mom who had an oxygen concentrator and to supply her home with power for GT heat pump, etc.

I also have a small 5 kW gasoline generator, but it goes though fuel quickly and won't last through the night. The diesel tractor lasts for a long time and is far more efficient.

Steve

SMA makes one that does not require batteries.

But only 1500 watts if you did two of the you could have another 1500 watts. That does not sound like anything close to what you said you needed to run.
