Default Half of Europe's food goes to waste

Fifty percent of healthy food wasted in EU
Quote:
Up to 50% of edible and healthy food gets wasted in EU households, supermarkets, restaurants and along the food supply chain each year, while 79 million EU citizens live beneath the poverty line and 16 million depend on food aid from charitable institutions, according to an European Parliament report.
Parliament pushes to slash food waste in Europe
Quote:
The European Parliament wants to cut food waste in half, warning that fresh and packaged foods tossed out every day pose a threat to Europe’s environment and efforts to reduce global poverty.

It is. And something like 90% of food in africa spoils before it can be eaten. If we could stop the waste there would be almost no hunger in the world.
