Mini-Split on exterior 2x6 wall: vibration/noise transfer to house?

Would there be too much vibration or noise transfer to the house?

IMHO, One of the best features of a mini-split is the very low noise level.
The indoor blower on my Sanyo (24,000 BTU) makes very little noise.

When I stand near my outdoor unit, I can hear the old stye central AC next door, Louder!
(And it's 80 feet away)!

But, with an inverter unit, the outdoor fan RPMs vary all over the place.
It might hit some kind of resonate frequency range where the unit
will shake your wall, transferring sound into the house.


So, if your wall is real solid, sound proof and has good rigidity, you are still
likely to get something that sounds a bit like a window AC.

I've seen a bunch of pictures of wall mounted units, and some of them
don't have the rubber feet mating with the wall bracket.
Might be okay on brick wall, but on anything else, that's going to transfer sound into the house.

In this picture, you can see six vibration damping packs on the copper pipes.
These are very heavy, flexible, tar-like add-ons that are suppose to keep
vibrations from being transmitted from the compressor.


With a wall mount, you will also get vibrations from the large fan (on the left).

Notice the rubber feet at the bottom of the picture. Those should mount onto the wall mount.
In other words, the mount needs to be made for your unit.

Millions of wall mounts are used around the world, but they are very rare, when there is a choice..

I build a 28x36 building about twenty years ago and we have convertered it to a house. We added a 18x23 room on one end for a living room.

11 years ago I had accident that left me a paraplegic but still try to do 90 percent on my home repairs and renovation--with the help of my wife of course.

Anyway the entire structure is on a concrete slab and we are replacing our HVAC this year. I originally installed a Ruud 2.5 ton and it worked pretty well for about 13 years.

All the ducting is in the attic but I want to do away with all the ducting and go split units for the entire house.

I build boxes at each end of the original structure to bring the ducting from the attic to the lower levels of the home.
I can run all the upstairs line sets through the overhang and into those boxes and into the split mini air handler, but downs stairs poses a problem because the compressor will not be directly behind the wall where the air handler will go….

Directly behind the wall is most likely the idea configuration, but in many cases,
the line set as to run sideways and up before it goes into the house (3" hole),
to the indoor air handler.


This guy is installing 3 indoor units off one outdoor unit..

Looks like about 50 feet of lineset there.

Many of the newer models can use pretty long lineset runs.

I think you might want to be careful when you get the lineset sleeve ,
make sure it's going to be long enough for your thicker walls.

Mine was almost too short..

My walls have stuff added over them, which makes them a bit thicker..

Are there any pics of how to install running the line set horizontal along an interior wall and do any models allow for line set to come in from the side?
