Go to Wal-Mart or AutoZone and check out the new led driving and fog lights. These things are super bright. I think they packed a bunch of 3W stars in a tiny space. Don't know if the color temperature would be good for a bathroom, though. They are on the cool side, 6000K or higher.

Those cob lamps you cited are nowhere near the lumen output your halogen fixtures. The little smd led modules aren't bad, but you need a lot of them for the lumens to really add up. PIAA, hella, and the other big dogs have fixtures out that do the same job as those halogens, but five of them would cost you a cool grand!
