Insulating the water heater/pipes - Page 2

What did you end up going with? Have you started the insulating yet?

I have started working on it a little but only finished the first few feet of the hot side. I chose to use Reflectix cutting a few strips folding it over on its self and taping it in place then wrapping reflectix over the spacers. I did it this way to increase the R-value. I still have to figure out what will be the easiest way to get it over the curves. It is keeping the heat in well as the wrap is not the same temp as the duct work it sits next to when the exposed pipe if warm.

Since we had family over last week we needed to finish painting and clean the house before I could work on it more. This weekend and next I'm busy so I will not get to it.

I will post some pics and tips when I'm finished.

Hi phantom,
When using roll insulation, I wrap as close to the center of the bend as possible, going to and away from it. The insulation on the inside of the bend will probably touch lightly. Next, cut a few "triangles" for the back side of the bend. Then tape the joint up.

Alternatively, some plumbing supply houses sell insulation bends.
