We are making 7.5KW in solar power right now.

Sounds like a Solar Moment.

How does your energy balance look over the span of a month?

We get zeroed out March 1. So from March 1 2015 until today we have banked 1,667KWh.

Last year Sept we carried forward 3,652 kwh (banked)
Last winter we used 2,862 kwh extra to heat with. So we made all our power for the year.

We did not use any natural gas to heat with all last winter just mini splits.
We have to make extra power in the summer to cover our winter mini splits heating and we drive our Chevy Volt more in the winter. We charge it twice a day in the winter.

That's amazing PV power!

When it was 85F here last week, we had both Sanyos running in the
dehumidifier mode at 75F. Each unit was using about 350 watts.
We even left them on at night when it dropped to under 65 outdoors.
They use hardly any power, but kick-in when the sun comes back up.

May as well not turn them off on cool nights, since the crankcase heaters
will suck down 40w each all night long..
When they are On, but with no motors running, they only use about 10w..

I just wanted to update this post. We have been running the Mini splits just over two 1/2 years now. This is the second year where we have not turned on our natural gas heat or our 4 ton out door AC unit. Not even once.
We have not missed them at all. We now stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than before.

I would like to say we conserve power but we don’t the living room is set 75-76 F I use to turn it down at night but I don’t anymore. My office 73 F kid’s rooms in the day time 70F.
We should still net zero this year. It is not unusual to to have all the rooms a few degrees different we all like to be a different temps. This works well with mini splits.

We are still very happy with the Gree units LG units are doing well but we like the GREE units better.

Gree has a unit that is one step up from the ones I installed. It is 30.5 SEER!
It can put out full heat at -20 F and it talks Wi-Fi to your phone to control the unit.
Two very nice features. It has a Variable Speed 2-Stage Compressor.

It is listed at 1,211.99 take 5% off that for the sale and add a line set. The Mitsubishi with about the same specs is but no Wi-Fi 1,669.99 plus add a line set. Both have free shipping.

I paid about 1K with a line set include so it is more money.

Wow.. That spec sheet says -22 def F!!
Now that sounds like the MS for me!!
Just need four or five of them to replace both the old Sanyo 24,000 BTU units..

They make a 9,000, 12,000 and a 18,000 BTU that all go to a -20 F and if you look at their capacity range they are under rated.
18K Capacity Range 4,436 -21,496 BTU/H

You still want the Fujitsu H line or the add on pan defroster for the Mits of similar specs

Those are impressive specs for that price, matching the 2nd to last gen of each of the major makers at nearly a $500 discount.
The recent gen of each model has pushed the heat performance for how we would use it.

One thing I saw on an energy forum to look at is the range/curve in which the models run. It noted the Mits had much larger range, ie could operate at lower output.

On the third winter of heat pump only and this winter has been much more hospitable to it's limits.
They still struggle during long cold snaps with constant defrost and lower spec output, and the energy savings drop far below the cheap natural gas.

Any air source unit that has a cop of 3 at 17 degrees is good enough for me. I can burn wood if it gets below zero!
