I think it really depends on the product. Sometimes the solution is not to buy at all, but to borrow. I love owning books but I've taken to borrowing them from the library instead, for a good, easy example.

Yeah, I should've mentioned books, but I am a real book collector. Not so much fiction stuff since I don't have time to "Read" anymore but academic things. :/

EDIT: I do get all my books second hand though.
