Default Hi all

Hi all. I'm from Southern IN. My power co. wants me to pay them $4769 during 2010 for energy. My overall bill raised $100 a month do to a ice storm last winter. Anyway for variety of reasons, I want not to need my power co. anymore.

Tonight I put copper coils inside this smoker with a pump I heated 50 gallon of water from 42 F to 81 F in 3 hours. It's so cold outside moisture is condensing in the chyme and dripping down. Nice thing about smokers their low temp and slow to heat. Some wet wood helps the chyme rain.

The Ranco operates off the modified inverter, Yes. More later.

Welcome to the site kbhale.

That is quite the electric bill! Could you tell us a bit more about your house/heating & cooling system?

I think you have your problem found. 4 refridgeration units, 3 air conditioners, plus the hydroponics. That stuff all takes tons of power. If you need it all, thats the price you have to pay. If you don't, just unplug an consolidate.

You have alot of room for improvement!
To compare my 1920's house to your 1920's house, only mine is 2,600sf... I used 105 therms in Dec 2009 to heat and 500kwh, my electric is so high because unlike you everything in my house is electric other then space heating is natural gas, but you can see your gas usage for cooking and water heating in the summer is a fraction of what your heat is.
First thing I would do is get a Kill-a-watt, or other energy meter, check your libery to see if they have any to loan out, if your fridges are old it might just pay for it's self in a few years by being more energy efficient, do that with everything in your house until you've figured out what is using so much.

I Just got May's bill. It must be partly the good weather.
May 2010 - 674 KWh..May 2009 - 1555 KWh..881 KWh x 0.13 = $114.53 savings

Lowest bill that I can remember. 21 KWh per day.

My power company is asking for rate increases now for all the new equipment they bought.
