If I'm not mistaken, the scroll mechanism is being retained as it was superior to rotary, and the inverter technology was added to compressors with the scroll mechanism to improve efficiency.

BTW,

Here is an interesting autopsy of a scroll compressor, for your viewing interest:

I stand corrected and you are correct. I didn't write clearly. I meant that the lack of the inverted, simply using a scrlol compressor had them stuck in the past. So much so that you can build a comparable unit from a dehumidifier in your PJ's. Junkhound had a thread going on GreenBuildingTalk about his system and he got some fantastic criticism from the geothermal guys there. Some said some very condescending things to him. At the end of the day the systems are remarkably similar.

Do you happen to have a link for the start of that discussion?

considering geothermal-ideas? - GreenBuildingTalk - GreenBuildingTalk - Green Building Forums on Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF), Structural Insulated Panels (SIP), Radiant Heating, Geothermal Heat Pumps, Solar Power, Green Construction Projects - Gr

Well here's one. I think there was another one also. I'll keep looking.

BTW he's "junkhound" there, not mejunkhound like he is here.

Here's another one where he tears apart an Rinnai direct vent water heater. He has some colorful things to say about its construction.
