Default Instead of Solar...

Has anyone heard of this? I think I may have had a little light bulb come on.
I have been trying to brain storm for some time about how to make my house more “green” (a.k.a. cheap consumers bills). Well today I came up with an idea that I don’t think I have heard anyone mention. It consists of two “green” lifestyles. Composting and heating water with off grid tech. My idea, if you haven’t already figured it out... Came to me while I was watching this youtube video, see video below.
Now, I am not sure about you but as soon as I found out how hot a compost pile gets. I thought to myself... WATER HEATER! Has any one done this? I would love to hear your comments! Why isn’t everyone doing this?
From my site...
Instead of Solar

Youtube video that mad me think of it...

Any one? Would this work?

Welcome to ER SKIN.

I've heard of it and it will work. I'm not sure it'll really get as hot as you want though. BuilditSolar had some info on their site about it. However, the links are now dead. I'm sure google would pull up some good info. If I wasn't too busy at work I'd do it right now.

I do wonder how hot it would get? I have my water heater set to 120 F. If it got to 120 I would be happy.

Also, I do not have the best setup to test this. My water heater is in my basement in the middle of my house. I don't have a compost pile yet. It would be in my back yard, kind of far from my house.

It looks like you may be in luck. I didn't think compost piles got that hot. Check this out:
