Default Car AC repair

My son’s Saturn AC does not work. I was making a trip to the junk yard. I vacuumed pumped the system out it would only go to 720 microns. I put dye in it. The compressor was bad and one flex hose had a very small leak.

I got two flex hoses and a compressor. I have on order a new drier, Expansion Valve and a O ring kit.
Working on a cars AC system is new to me but I have all the tools now.

I was thinking about putting on the new flex hoses and compressor testing to see if the compress works.
If it works then later in the week I will add the new drier, Expansion Valve and a O ring kit vacuum the system and charge it for good.

Does this sound like a good plan?

I did the plan above. The compressor works fine.
I got my new parts in and installed them. I pressure tested it with nitrogen 100 psi. and it held fine.

Then I tried to vacuum pump it I could not get it pumped down at all. I let it run for 3 hours it did not read on the micron gauge.

I turned the gauges off to see if the micron gauge was working and pump working it pumped down right away.
While the pump was running it has vapor coming from the top. The pump has new oil in it.

I had dye in the system and the Expansion Valve had some dye on the top of it.
Maybe a bad new Expansion Valve?
Seems strange it will hold 100 psi but will not vacuum down?

I just put the old Expansion Valve back in and it is down to 750 microns pretty fast.
I will let it pump for an hour and refill it with Freon.
A bad new Expansion Valve.
I received a refund for the bad Expansion valve.

AC is now putting out 44 degree air nice....
