Dyson bladeless fan
Not exaclty related to efficiency, but claims to be as efficient. Its a bladeless fan. Sounds pretty weird eh? Of course, its pricy too!

so it's a blower in the base, and forces air out through holes in the top hoop... if it's comparably efficient to the $20 box fan I have upstairs, I will save my money.

Well, no, a blower has blades. It must be a compressor in the base, forcing air through a nozzle (aka "multiplying" it), and redirecting it with a static blade. Pretty neat idea, but I really can't think of an application for it.
