Default yet another intro

I found this forum looking into heat pumps, because the info I want is hard to find. I found it here thanks to some neat threads (long, too).

I've half a mind to build a VFD driven simultaneous heating and cooling unit (instead of having a reversing valve, just have a hot and cold tank, and valve the water instead of the refrigerant), with the intention of being able to heat hot water and make ice for delayed cooling (storing "cold"). don't worry, it'll take forever and a half to get started.
