Yes, but they work fine for me. Since the CIA board is plugged into my router.

Note:
Due to NSA snooping on Yahoo,
Yahoo promises encryption as NSA’s email and IM contact list collection is exposed — Tech News and Analysis

Their email now require SSL/TLS security, which webcontrol WC8 CAI does not support.
Unless you buy the new larger memory WC32 board. Yahoo is out.

Default More extra cold nights ahead..

Our Sanyo ASHP heaters started resetting this morning, when it got too cold for them.
They have been hacked to draw a max of 10A (2.5kW) before the power shuts off.

That Accuweather forecast predicted it would stay above 10.0 °F all night.
My wife heard at least one reset 6:28am. It was 6.0°F at 7:13am.

I know these things don't work very well below 10.0°F,
and use a LOT of power at those temps. Hence the 10A shut-down.
At midnight, I checked and the temperature seemed to be going up.
Slept late and never noticed any shutdowns or chilliness.

So, temperatures in the single digits seem to be more common now..
My fix, is a software temperature alarm set for 12°F.

When the outdoor temperature is less than 12°F, the CAI will send a signal
to the X-10 in the living-room. The X10 will supply 12VDC to a back-up-alarm.
The alert is a nice Asian lady, saying "Attention please, this car is backing up"..

Connect the 12V to some resistors (small heaters) set underneath the remotes. Now it will automatically scale them back.

I've considered that idea before. The 'install' job has too many strikes against it.
If I could snake wire to where it was needed, it would be a good way to go.
Plus, there isn't an idea location for the Tstat in the den.
Like a TV remote, it's always being moved around. Especially on sunny days.
If it sits in the sun, the heat goes right off.

I want to be awakened, so I can decide which back-up heat to use, and how I want it set up (depending on the hour).
If the sun is coming up in 30 minutes, I'll just use space heaters and leave the oil in it's tank.

I've ordered a cheap voice record/playback board. It's on it's way from China.
ISD1820 Voice Recording Recorder Module with Mic Sound Audio Loudspeaker New | eBay

If it's loud enough to wake me, I'll use it, instead of the car-back-up alert.
(That will be installed on my car.. Someday).

The nice part about using this method.. If the forecast is wrong, and it stays above 12F all night,
I don't have to worry about the Sanyos, because I'll be sleeping like an old dog..

Three times this year, the forecast has been wrong, and I've wasted oil,
by programming the (oil burner) timer, based on the hourly forecast.

Default PLC program 2-8-14

This is today's version with the warning to turn on oil heat etc..
The new section is Caller2, and it's the first call made out of the Main.

Caller2 checks the outdoor temp. (Later I will add in other checks).
If outdoors is colder than 12F, then heat_on: is called.

heat_on: runs the X10 connected to the alarm horn for 45 seconds,
shuts it off and returns to caller2: then to Main.

This cycle will repeat endlessly, until intervention, or warmer weather.

My plan is to unplug the voice module X10, and turn on the back-up heat,
and go back to bed..

Xringer,

I admire your tenacity in trying to make your Sanyos do what you want them to do in spite of their limitations.

However, jeff5may has identified a model of Mitsubishi that will continue to work well down into the temperature range that is proving to be so vexing for you.

You have accumulated a lot of knowledge about just what conditions you are facing, and exactly how much heat you are losing. Apparently, seriously upgrading your insulation will never be an option for you, so...

Perhaps it is time to upgrade your heating system with more modern Mitsubishi(s) and sell your Sanyos to someone who is in a slightly warmer climate.

I really like the idea of upgrading to the low temp Mitsubishi units.
It would be a lot less fuss when it drops really low.

These Sanyos had been working just fine during 99% of the heating season..
It's only during this horrible winter that our use of oil heating has jumped so much.

I don't mind using oil once in a while, it makes me keep up the maintenance routine on the old boiler.
One of these dark days, we might end up burning wood to keep warm.

Hey, this might be one of those Once every 100 year winters.. And things will get better.

Now my part-time job is gone, we just might be eligible for state fuel assistance.
And there's one program that just gives entitled folks 100 gallons for free.
I think we could get by on 100 gallons pretty easy. At least during most winters.
