The roof is color sanded and the trunk is color sanded.
I think we are going to put it back together and color sand over the winter break when my son has more free time.

He does not have time to finish it so I helped him out.
I started on it Friday night and finished on it Sunday. Now he can start driving it again.

We are happy with how it turned out.

This is a picture of the car when we bought it for $325. This project has been long but the hours Zack and I have spent working hard on this project has been price less.
I hope he looks at it later in life like I remember my first car. He was excited to drive his 22-year-old car to school today.

It is nice to see even before we painted it he would park away from everyone so his car would not be damaged.

My arms are still sore.

The color sanding process was this.
I worked on one part like fender at a time. I taped off adjacent edges.
All sanding was hand sanding. All buffing was with a power buffer.

Wet sand with 1200 clean sand again 1200 clean spot sand with 1200.
Wet sand with 1500 clean spot sand 1500.
Wet Sand 2000 clean
Buff with wool wheel Meguiar's 105.
Clean spot buff with Wool pad Meguiar's 105.
Clean foam pad Meguiar's 105.
Clean the foam pad use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze 82 Professional Swirl Free Polish
Clean then use the finish foam pad with Meguiar's G19216 Ultimate Polish clean then done move on.

I started out with Summit Racing compound but that did not work near as well as the above procedure.

Thanks, we a very happy they way it turned out.
It had some orange peel but that color sanding really brought it to life and got rid of the orange peel.
Putting 4 coats on let me do a good color sanding.

You can really see yourself deep in the paint now.

LOL, the car looks brand new, but it's older than your son!!
Amazing! In another 10 or 15 years, he might be thinking about handing it down to his son.?.

After all that work, I'll bet he's a very safe driver!!

Thanks for the nice comments.

Funny, the car is 6 Years older than my son.

I would love to see him to keep it that long and it would make a great second first car.

That is exactly one of the reasons we did this project. (from my side anyway) They have had two parking lot wrecks at school in the last two weeks.
He said he waits and lets the rush get on the road before he backs out.
It looks like it is working we live 39-mile trip for his school so he puts a lot of miles on his car.

Young USAF pilots and aircrew are still flying the old B52 bombers made decades before they were born!
Back in 1970, I took some glider pilot flight lessons up in NH. I wanted some stick-time, because I was learning to fly RC gliders. (No flight simulators in the 70s).
About 25 years later, I went back for joy-ride and we took up the very same glider!
I think it was this model. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweizer_SGS_2-33
Have not seen one since then.. Might be collectors items now..

My point: If you take care of stuff, it can last a long time!!
