Default Tree Conservation

My house is well shaded by an old Maple tree that has grown as four suckers from the stump of an original tree. The four new trunks all lean away from each other, and I expect them to fall some day. My friend the arborist is not alarmed yet, but I'm wondering about just tying the four trunks together with heavy rope, loose enough to only affect things if one breaks. Presumably, the other three would be positioned to take the wind, snow, or whatever and give me time to avoid collateral damage. Any advice?

If you think it's a potential fall threat to your house then cut it down.
