Default FLIR One (iPhone 5 required)

How it works

Why does the FLIR ONE have two cameras?
for the MSX® Technology

Raw thermal images are beautiful, however, they don't provide too much physical detail. So the FLIR ONE blends both images using MSX Technology, providing physical detail to the raw thermal reading. With MSX Technology, the FLIR ONE captures what nothing else can.

The camera that allows the FLIR ONE to take a thermal reading is smaller than a dime, it's the most compact long-wave infrared sensor available, and it's positioned to equip a new generation of mobile and handheld devices with unprecedented thermal imaging capabilities.

Every time you capture a thermal reading with the FLIR 1, you are also taking a standard picture. This picture will provide physical detail to the raw thermal reading.

I gleamed some useful info from that despite the fact I won't buy one it did mention that the thermal sensor it uses is from a new line of sensors developed for small thermal devices. Which indicates to me that china will be soon selling there own versions of cheap handheld thermal cameras.

Our future could be filled with thermal imagery if the prices keep coming down , also thermal is very good for Night vision especially used in conjunction with IR cameras and IR spot lights

Speaking of China, for ****s and giggles, I went on alibaba and looked for thermal cameras. Their companies are trying to sell for prices similar to the north american ones. None of the SEEk type were evident there, however.

Might take a couple years for the cheap goods to be fashioned together .. lol

A warning on Alibaba , it reminds me of a Nigerian site, with sellers waiting for a purchase order at inflated prices , if its $90 on Alibaba it can found for $29 on eBay etc. , being sold by the same or similar Company sellers.

I would like one for the outdoors when prices come down..

I placed an order for a FLIR ONE. I happen to have an iPhone (5s) and the thermal camera looks pretty cool. It was out of stock from the manufacturer, but is supposed to ship in a few days.

I'll definitely post photos and my thoughts about it when I get the camera.

I was surprised by the clarity of the thermal photos from the FLIR 1 , although it is the overlay technology that gives it the clarity it sure works well.

I hope that the android version , the SEEK will have a app available to do the same with its thermal images , as it certainly does work well.
