Default Bathtub insulation :D

I am in the middle of doing a Full bathroom Reno replacing everything and am taking this chance to insulate the new Tub.

A) My goal is to have the hot water stay hotter for longer much like a insulated travel mug does.
&
B) As a side effect the tub radiate less coldness / absorb less of the rooms warmth.

I have the fiberglass tub upside down and have started applying the spray foam to it.. I need more foam or it would be done by now..tomorrow it will be.

How thick is the foam layer going to be? What type of foam?

I'll post some pics later today/tonight when I get it finished, I am using "Great Stuff" in a spray can to insulate it 3 to 5 inches all around.

add: as much as possible anyways as the bottom can only hold a inch of foam, so it will only get that.

Is this so that you can sit and unwind after a long stressful day?

...do you light scented candles too?

Its Popular with Hot Tubs so why not a Soaker Tub.
It will be a Eco Tub and require Less hot water top ups to maintain the temp.

It will also keep the room warmer when the tubs not being used

Default Almost done

1 more can and it will be complete making for a total 9 of the 900 gr. cans of Great stuff to do the tub. I used some Styrofoam foamed in along the front apron to take up some space and help stretch the spray foam.

I did it in the living room miraculously without making a mess of the house , I did however get spray foam on my hands and cloths.
In the pics you can see I was trimming the foam by all the bits and pieces..
I need to apply 1 more can to the bottom then its covered and done.

the $80 cost Pro rated over the next 20 years works out to 33 cents a month or $4 a year.

I put the last can on , it will expand for the 24hrs before I trim it again then I seal it and put it in place. Once its plumbed in I will stuff the area around the tub with some left over fiberglass insulation for a complete fill of the bathtubs area.

It will be as warm as a thermos ..I think

I am thinking about making a cellulose insulation concrete mix for the tub`s leveling bed for more insulation. Its r-value is reported to be within 2.0 and 3.0 per inch

I have nixed the Papercrete idea in favor of silicone, After realizing the bathtub was out of level only about a 1/8th of a inch , I opted for another solution -use Silicone to bond the Tub in place , its shimmed on the center floor joist of course
I Put a whack of latex silicone on the tubs base, sealing the foam that I exposed when leveling it and filling the imperfections in preparation for being mounted.

I ended up using 10 cans of spray foam so far , the 11th can will go on after its mounted for some finishing touches when mounting it.
