Exterior home shading
I'm looking for ideas to block sun from the southwest windows of my home. I have about a 20' span of windows on that side, and in the afternoon/evening, they let in bunch of sunlight. I currently don't have any window coverings on the inside, as I like that clean look.
My area is having a record breaking summer already (it was 109F yesterday), so I'm looking for ways to keep my home cooler. I'm thinking of some sort of lightweight, track type system that I can hang from the outside edge of my soffit, which would place the shade about 2' from my windows. I like the track idea, so I can completely slide in out of the way when not needed, or slide the material out of the track before a storm/winter, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Solar screens have a pretty clean look and work extremely well.

Some form of roll up shade would probably work good too (on the exterior). I'm not sure how asthetically pleasing you want it to be though.

There is a recent GBA article on keeping cool and they make the good point that shades on the outside work better because they don't let the heat from the sun enter the house.
