Default what to do with this?

hey all...quick first post intro....i'm scott, mech. eng. from ohio.....

sooo, bought this house about 18 months ago, and after finally catching up with the wife's fix it list, it's time to have a little fun....question is...what to do with this little gem?....it's a 1/2HP model, totally plumbed in as it sits(valves are closed, and may have been for the last 40years).....the cistern pulls water from half the roof and is best-guessed at 4000+gallons(12x6x8').....i've bounced all the options around(pilfer it for parts/just turn it on/greywater to toilets/4000 gallon heat storage,etc.....), but can't pull the trigger on anything.....all thoughts are welcomed so long as they meet wife's rule #1...whatever it is, it has to be justifiable on a utility bill..

thanks!

Welcome to ER

Maybe try openning the valves and seeing if it works. Hopefully the valves will close again. Where are you from, how much rain do you get? 4,000 gallons a lot of water...

And the post limit for pics and links is b/c of spammers.
