Default Great write up on a microhydro setup

I know most of us don't have access to this kind of setup, but its at least worth a minute just to scroll through the tons of pictures of the process. Its a really nicely documented setup. Here are just a few images.

I loved seeing those handmade 203 pound transformers. Amazing!
The largest ones I own are around 20 pounds. Here I was thinking those were big..

I like the idea of using the large diameter pipe for the added gal per minutes it provides without a high pressure run.

I am thinking having a Micro hydro system with a pipe of that diameter in the Mountains of B.C would provide a enormous amount of energy ,and one could make a good buck with it once it was up and running & grid tied $.

Recycled Water

I found this interesting link when looking into system , it is a waste water micro hydro generator , for larger complexes or industry.

Necessity is the driver for invention.

I would imagine he was in a similar predicament like my parents. My parents had to pay the utility company $15,000 to install 3 poles and lay 300 ft of high voltage power in a 4ft deep trench my parents and I dug (Trust me, every time the utility company came by my dad had to send my mom inside the house or she would come unglued!). This guy probably figured he could pay his power company a large sum of money to run power to his house and then pay them even more every month, or make his own power!

$15,000 seems like enough to buy some solar power..
Maybe even enough for 2 people.

Not when you are on the side of a mountain, surrounded by trees, and only get about 5 hours of good sun. Plus, my dad is stubborn and doesn't think solar is all that good (which it really isn't in some senses).

I wish my panels got a full 5 hours.. It's 15:14 right now, and the sun is not on the panels anymore..
