Default Intro

Hello everyone!

I have 2 places to Eco Renovate.

1) My Home 2,700 Square feet Log Cabin

Current Mods
Switched From 1980 Propane water heater to Batch Solar + Tankless setup
Sealed up air Ducts
30 Tubes of caulk (so far) sealing up everyplace I could see light.
Lots Of Great Stuff
Few bales of Insulation
Automated Roof Sprayer with Thermostat + Water flow sensor (no attic on 1/2 of the house)
Home Brew Cool and Save
Dusk to dawn sensors on all outside lighting systems
Lots of CFL's
Energy Star Refridgerator + freezer

Results
Electricity Bills from $200~$600 (season Dependent) Down to $65~$300 (also Season Dependent) Do not forget I added electric hot water heating in this time period so savings are actually more dramatic.

Propane Use has fallen significantly as well (still on same tank as when I installed the hot water heater so no hard data yet)

2) Camp 650 Square feet

Current mods
20 bales of Blown Cellulose Insulation (not insulated before
10 Tubes of Caulk
Painted roof with cool seal
Re-wired so not so much wire was glowing red hot
New windows all around (lots of galls was broken)
Water Cistern

Results

Reduced cooling load from 15,000 btu + 8,000 BTU (which barley kept up) down to a much more efficient single 6,500 BTU unit which can turn it in to an ice house.
No real data on electrical consumption because I'm still under 200 Kwh under my ownership (2 years)

Hopefully more To come soon!

I can't wait for this place to get cranking!

Sounds like you've come a long ways! Got any pictures of the progress? Any plans for the future?

I am terrible about taking pictures!

I have a few of the dirty house while rushing out to evacuate a few weeks back here MobileMe Gallery

and a few of the water heater before I mounted it here MobileMe Gallery

Plans/ hopes

Next is a set of electronic ignitors (like on the very fancy bbq pits) on the 6 burner propane stove to replace the array of pilot lights currently in use.

I'd like to do a geothermal heat exchange loop.

I also have a crazy Idea about combining a desiccant wheel with swamp cooling and using an already hot attic to dry the desiccant; yes pretty crazy . . .

Unfortunately the last few moths have been more about just making things work rather than making them efficiant . . . .

Hey dremd- your neighbor down the interstate here. Can't wait to pick your brain once I get home and start my next project. You didn't get any damage during the storms did you?

Hey toyobug!

I didn't realize you were from Mississippi.

No damage; we just lost a few trees and went on forced vacation for a few days.

Where about d you live in Mississippi?

I thought I told you on Ecomodder that I live in Long Beach. (a.k.a. Katrinaville..)
I was born in Oakdale, LA. not too far from where you live. All my family is in LA. I was in the Air Force, stationed at Keesler, so when I got out, I stayed. My wife's family is all from MS.
