Here in the NE, oil heat is very common. But there are also a lot of people using gas.
Some are even using propane. When I see propane delivery trucks on during the dead of winter,
I know that fuel isn't going to be used to heat an outdoor swimming pool..

We've had a few houses explode around here, and it made me paranoid enough
that I've removed all the little propane tanks from my basement shop.
They are now stored in a detached garage. With the BBQ tanks.

The #2 fuel oil is what we burn. It seems to work okay in diesel cars.
I've heard that some of the rich folks around here use heating oil in their Mercedes-Benz cars.
It's a way to avoid taxes.


I've never compared the price of gas and oil heat.
I assume that paying $600 to $800 a month (during the cold months) for oil,
is a lot more than people pay for gas.

I looked at all the specs and didn't see it..

I've become well known in the family as a computer guy.
It's only 20% true, but there is no escaping it.

These days, I've been buying pre-built PCs. First a Dell, and now a lenovo.
No more building for me. (I do change out the PS and add graphics boards, memory etc).


Got laid off from NEC, after many years as a senior manufacturing test engineer, tending to NEC printers and PC lines..

When I first went to work at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory ATR (Antenna Test Range).
I was eager to dive into microwave antenna testing. (being a ham radio geek).
But, they had read my resume and gave me two pallets of old PCs to repair..

After about a month of digging into dust filled antiquities they called PCs,
I got really fed up with working on PCs.. And software.. Windoze and Novel!


Yeah, PCs used to be fun.. Not anymore..

Tell me about it. I'm tired of computers other then for entertainment. I almost want to buy a really old car just so I can learn about engines just to learn something different. Although it wouldn't really do much for me considering the engines out there now are all electronic and what not.

Computers are no harder then a lego set to put together, They engineered them this way so the 3rd World 5-6 year old laborers can assemble them swiftly..

With a car higgy you will get strong ! as turning wenches in tight spaces is hard and knuckle busting.. the Cars computer will tell you were the problem is so you can bust a knuckle removing it..

Yeah, at each of the work stations on the line, each assembler gets to plug in his part..
A power supply, a motherboard or maybe just a couple of screws..

My job was to write the directions for each station and the test software
and test processes at each test station.

I've seen many adults (some from the 3rd World) who didn't have the skill for even the simple task of installing parts correctly.

Of course, nowadays things are easier then it was building 20th Century PCs.

I used to dream of re-building an old Motorcycle.. But not gonna happen.
No engine work for me. I've had such horrible results working on small engines,
there is no way I would do basic timing-belt change or valve clearance adjustments, brake jobs etc..

When I did work that kind of on my cars, it was almost under duress..

Nowadays, I drive very little, so I should never had to do too much to my cars.
Just take care of the basic maintenance stuff.

I'll be more than happy to work on my bicycle.. But I'll stay far away from anything major on a car..
