I didn't read much of it. But I did enjoy looking at a bunch of hacking pictures.
Some of the tools and methods used looked interesting to me anyways..

Awesome find, xringer. A definite read for the inexperienced, would be hacker or tinkerer considering modifying an existing prefab unit. Chock full of pics.

I see he's using this to cool aquarium water. I suppose if you had a source of running water/drain you could almost use this as a geothermal system???
