I purchased one of those jugs of R410a when I did the repair on my first Sanyo.
Nice to have the left-over gas, just in case we have "another learning experience"!

I think I have read all your Sanyo threads . Thank you very much . You info and that of others has been invaluable ! :-) I think I mentioned , some time or other , my unit is a cheap Chinese 13 SEER bottom of the line unit ? ( Although I think it has a Toshiba compressor ? ) No inverter , it simply cycles . So , I am hoping that means it is simpler electrically & electronically . And I am hoping it will , maybe , be more reliable , for that reason . I read replacement spare parts for these Chinese units can be problematic ? Again , I hope I do not need any replacement parts . As far as it being 13 SEER , that is the same as my central unit & the mini split does not have any duct loss . So , at least I did not go backwards . If I had to do it over again , I would have used a longer line set and located the outdoor unit in a different spot . The longer line set would have meant I would have had to add more R410a . That was something I was trying to avoid . But , since I dumbed up and caused a leak , I had to buy refrigerant any way . But such is life . Some one once told me the definition of experience is , what you got when you did not get what you wanted ! :-) Once again , thanks to all who have given me invaluable help and advice . :-) God bless Wyr |

Um, 18/4? Aside from communication between indoor and outdoor, that wire has to power the fan. Every one I have installed states 14/3 wire between indoors and out. Which unit is it?

4 conductors total
It's 3 wires and a ground* on the Sanyos.. (terminals 1,2 & 3)
(*blue-green on left) 5 & 6 are the 240vac.. Green chassis ground on left. Looking at that 240 wiring, you get the feeling there is nothing in the box that needs 120vac.. 14 gauge sounds like the right stuff. My first Sanyo came with a kit that included stranded wire for the indoor comm and power. On the second install, I used standard old 14/3 with ground.. Little tiny terminal lugs were needed, with a good sized screw hole.. I soldered them on, since it was it was solid wire.. Still working, so far..

Just about 100% certain it called for 18/4 cable . I used 18/4 TS Plenum cable from work . Rated at 300 volts . I could have easily used 14/3 W/G Romex . I do not think it indicated which of the 4 terminals were ground , but I could have checked that , if needed , with an ohm meter . I think the circuit is low voltage , but did not check that , either . Power wiring was 14/2 W/G Romex . 15A 120 VAC circuit . To the outdoor unit . Tried to just follow the instructions . MiniSplitCondensor07-08-2013_zpsa38b4412.jpg Photo by WyrTwister | Photobucket Shows the power and controls , each in Liquid-Tite flex . The rest of the way is not . Neither the Romex or the Plenum cable . No where is either cable exposed to weather / moisture . And the outdoor unit is under the porch , out of the rain & snow . If it rains or snows . :-( I expect the wiring to last longer than the equipment . And longer than I do . The wiring was , naturally , the easiest part . God bless Wyr PS I insulated the rest of the two copper lines and the service valves , after that photo was taken . That was when I wiggled the high pressure line enough to cause the leak at the small flare nut . :-( Last edited by WyrTwister; 10-13-13 at 03:01 AM.. |
