One more pic of the first layer mostly done. I didn't want to sandwich the outer layer because the screws that go through may not have enough strength to hold all the siding on without sagging and possible shearing off over time.

Looking good. Are you using anything to air seal the foam boards?

here is a few more pics. I will seal the foam around the window and door and anywhere that there is any holes. Then the Tyvek will go over it, hopefully before the weekend.

A couple more pics. The tyvek is going on and the 5/8" strapping with ridge vent mesh is going at the bottom and the top of the rain screen to kepp the bugs out.

This is a great way to go. The challenge will be to waterproof the extensions of the fenestration. Are you going to use brake metal flashing?

Interesting, we put the windows and doors in 5 years ago with an eye to doing the insulation after, but you know how time goes. As you can see, the windows and doors stick out a good 5" from the brick and there was 1.5" of SM put on the "box" before it was flashed with aluminum. I butted the siding right up to the aluminum and will just calk it in place. Not ideal but not too bad either.
