X-10 equipment: ideas?
Hi guys.
Thanks to the local Freecycle group, I came across a bunch of X-10 modules. They're all lamp modules. Some plug in and have a two-prong connector, some replace light switches and some screw into a lamp socket. I also have a control pad from Radio Shack. Any ideas what I can do with these? Practically all of my lighting is fluorescent, which apparently don't work with these modules. Nothing else is really jumping out at me, and frankly, I had hoped that at least some of them would be three-prong appliance-type modules, but none are. Thanks. |

Well, at least you have a control pad..
I've used two of the three-prong appliance-type modules to shut down my two little A/V centers at night and when not in use. Mostly, because the cable boxes run warm. You can buy them on Ebay. Mine were pretty cheap. I used some of the lighting type wall switch units, to control some incandescent sconce lamps and one outdoor incandescent entrance lamp. The X-10 transmitter is built into the alarm system (a DIY install). The lamps come on, (programmable) when the system is disarmed. And also have their own toggle button on the alarm remote. Anyways, if you have an alarm system, or planing to get one, those modules might come it handy for incan security lighting. (Lighting that's not ordinarily in use). X-10 sells a security system controller that can use all those modules. I'm not sure how reliable their system is.. |
