You really have to do the math.

My electricity is about $0.087/kwh really inexpensive. Using my heatpump is actually more expensive then natural gas around here. It is however cheaper then the oil furnace that it replaced.

Also electricity prices are regulated by the government here so I know way in advance what it's going to cost and what increases can be expected.

The other thing to remember is when the power goes out you had better have a backup source of heat. I made the mistake of an all electric house years ago. At the time being forced to stay in bed under the covers for 3 days with my then girlfriend now wife wasn't so bad but it could really suck with the kids these days.

Well my elc is .022 a kwh from what I can tell I'm currently in the process of insulating/sealing up the house and I've already noticed a huge difference just in doing that.. So maybe I should just skip the heat pump and start on gshp? Lol I have lots of yard to dig up for the ground loops..

I'm sorry I was reading with a beer in my hand, your cost for electricity is 0.022 /Kwh. Is the excavator there yet for your ground loop? At that price let the dirt fly. The ground source heat pump is for you.
