It will happen in the US. It has happened before, and I'm not talking about during the 70's when there was a real reason for it. There was a radio station in California that mentioned that there was a gas station that ran out of fuel. The radio host made a joking comment saying 'you better go fill up'. Well, people did and word spread that fuel might be running out. It ended up being a crisis situation where the sheeple herded and it took a week to get the fuel back at the pumps. ..just because people got afraid.

If we have a real fuel shortage, we're all screwed unless we've got enough fuel in our tanks or gas cans at home to get by until we are through it. Glad I drive a car that can get me 700+ miles to a tank, I'm not as worried.

If it does happen here again, I'm a little worried about what would happen
if the problem lingered on for a few months.
I've got a feeling that it would really hurt the economy bad.

If it happens during the heating season and prices shoot up,
that could be a very serious problem, since the price of heating oil seems to be linked to gasoline prices.
Of course food prices (and everything else) will be affected too..

I really don't need to drive that much. We live within bicycle range of a few food stores.
Food, water & electricity is about all we need to survive during cold weather.
If the weather is mild, we could do okay without the grid..
My backup PV might not be able to handle running both the refrigerator and freezer,
unless we got nice sunny days..
