In our 2150 sqft house with 2 adults and 2 kids we used approx 710 kWh/Month, and that's with gas heating and hot water. Man, what the heck is sucking so much power in my house? I have to wonder what my neighbors bill is because we don't even use that much AC in the summer. We supplement AC at night with fans for the boys and our room at the lowest setting. Been putting in more LED's around the house as well. Need to start checking all those things that trickle power in the house. I'm sure there's lots of that going on.

Wife and I went from a rental house and bought our first home. We skipped the standard "starter" and "second" homes and went straight to the "third" home. Our house is a 3200 sq ft (a bit big for our tastes but it is hard to beat $61/sq ft), single story, all electric house. Currently 2.5 people, soon to be 3. Our monthly average is 1100 kWh/month with the maximums typically in January/February and August at nearly 1900 kWh and the minimums around November and May at 500 kWh. We typically keep the AC at 74F in the summer and 68F in the winter. On the extreme nights (for Alabama), when it dips below 20, we will knock the heat back to 65F, hoping it can keep up.

We pay nearly the same as the 1400 sq ft rental we were living in.

Most of our lights are CFL. As those burn out we will switch to LED, since they are so stinking cheap now!
