Default Need some specs on these, and some advice...

ARRGH!!

The stuff on the interweb thingy gets worse and worse...

OK..Here's the story:

A friend got ahold of 34 Solarex SX110 panels and the roof mount system for them real cheap (like <$25 per panel). He owns quite a few industrial type storage units, and wants to use the panels for 12v security lighting inside the buildings (approx 30-40w per unit).

So here's the thing:

What are the specs on these panels? They are 12v panels is about all I know. What are the rest of the specs? (Wattage, currents/etc).

After that, I'll probably need help on battery sizing, charge controllers/etc.

Any help?

No. Not the MSX-110. The SX-110. The MSX are higher voltage.

These put out about 16.2vdc loaded

Looks like they are the same as the BP SX-110S panels. (BP/Solarex combined, if I remember correctly)
So maybe it's this?

If the interweb search proves fruitless, usually PV panels (even my little Chinese 12V panels) have stickers on the back of the panels that tell you all the fun specifications you want to know.

Nice score. I should have grabbed all the last PV system I saw offered for sale used... It was a grid tie 7.5kW system.

No stickers. All that is on it is a sticker on the junction box(es) saying "less than 24v" and the model# plate on the frames

The output in watts is not hard to figure out. Put one of the panels in full sun and measure the DC current between the two output leads. You already know the voltage (16-17 v).

watts = volts x amps

If you get 10 amps, then they are ~160 to 170 watts.

Or maybe you already knew this . . . . (if so, sorry).

iirc, they were approx 6.5a (rather early in the AM), so they seem to be 110w panels, which makes sense for the model#.

That seems to jibe with the link I posted, so seems those specs maybe close for calculating stuffs...

My thoughts (using base things and the numbers on that sheet), a 24hr 5x7watt load, 2x125AH 12v batteries, a 20A or 30A charge controller, and 3 of those panels should work well enough.

Any comments/thoughts?
